At the beginning of last month, Powerwolf teased then announced that a new, updated version of one of their first songs, “Kiss of the Cobra King”, from the band’s first album “Return in Bloodred”, would be released on All Saints’ Day, the 1st of November 2019. As expected, the song is now available, together with a music video:
This new version sounds a lot like what the band has been producing these past few years, and is especially similar to their latest album, “The Sacrament of Sin”, released in mid-2018. Lyrics-wise, the chorus has remained the same, although the two verses have been entirely rewritten, in a more modern Powerwolf style, as it can be seen on this side-by-side comparison:

Another wait and I let it fall, it’s anyway
You got me down on my knees for a single way
And when the time is done, alone we wore
Oh, I cannot feel this way
Woooh, this is the kiss of the Cobra King
Woooh, this is the kiss of the Cobra
Woooh, this is the kiss of the Cobra King
Woooh, this is the kiss of the Cobra
And when they come and I see the town, anyway
Another fall and I lose the love, true mistake
You feel the mirror in my eyes coming out
Oh, I cannot feel this way
Woooh, this is the kiss of the Cobra King
Woooh, this is the kiss of the Cobra
Woooh, this is the kiss of the Cobra King
Woooh, this is the kiss of the Cobra
[Instrumental break]
Woah, woah
Woooh, this is the kiss of the Cobra King
Woooh, this is the kiss of the Cobra
Woooh, this is the kiss of the Cobra King
Woooh, this is the kiss of the Cobra
Deus Rex Cobra
I pray to Heaven that we don’t wake the Cobra tonight
And I say a prayer when we call for the blood of the wild
This time in the venom of the Cobra lies the might
Deus in serpens nominum, all we die
Woooh, this is the kiss of the Cobra King
Woooh, this is the kiss of the Cobra
Woooh, this is the kiss of the Cobra King
Woooh, this is the kiss of the Cobra
I pray to Heaven we escape from the poison in veins
And I bring a sacrifice before the light of dawn will invade
This night when in a bite of the Cobra lies the might
Deus in serpens nominum, all we die
Woooh, this is the kiss of the Cobra King
Woooh, this is the kiss of the Cobra
Woooh, this is the kiss of the Cobra King
Woooh, this is the kiss of the Cobra
Deus Rex Cobra
Beware the kiss of the Cobra
Woooh, resist the kiss of the Cobra King
Woooh, resist the kiss of the Cobra
[Cobra chanted in the background]
Woooh, beware the kiss of the Cobra King
Woooh, beware the kiss of the Cobra
If we now focus on the music video, one of the scenes is definitely a Powerwolf version of the well-known painting “The Last Supper”, depicting Jesus Christ and the 12 Apostles, going as far as featuring 12 characters on top of the lead vocalist of the band, Attila Dorn:
A different scene shows what one could call a modern Church priest, which, undoubtably, if the Church looked like this, a lot more people would be interested in attending, especially seeing the popularity of Powerwolf’s “The Metal Mass”:
Ironically, most viewers are laughing at the fact that the video features a python snake instead of an actual cobra, making jokes about it, such as “Kiss of the Python King”.
