After years of trials, the US Court has given its final decision: Samsung did copy Apple’s design and will have to pay the company around half a billion dollars in damages.
In 2011, an initial trial condemned the South-Korean manufacturer to pay Apple 400 million dollars, but Samsung had contested the verdict. The US Supreme Court cancelled the sanction and sent the case back into the system. Now, 7 years after, Samsung is forced to pay 530 million dollars.
Originally, Apple was demanding 1 billion for multiple patent infringements, between the shape of their iPhone, their logo and their user interface, claiming the South-Korean manufacturer copied most of those and thus was misleading the consumers.
