Huawei sells millions of devices per year, having shipped over 200 million devices in 2018. These devices all come with Huawei’s own Android skin, called EmotionUI, or EMUI for short. In a recent meeting, Wang Chenglu, president of software engineering at Huawei’s Business Consumer Group, claimed that EMUI now has over 470 million users daily, with this number growing regularly.
EMUI adds various functionalities to Android, in many cases various years in advance compared to the stock Google build, such as the possibility of having split screen, screen recording, taking screenshots with the knuckles, twin apps (having the possibility of having two accounts of WhatsApp/Facebook/etc on the same device) and many others. Some of the most recent features include Huawei Share, giving users to possibility of quickly transferring files to or from other Huawei devices, desktop mode, and GPU Turbo, allowing to have a better gaming experience on the device.
The latest version of EMUI, EMUI9.1, is currently in beta in China, and should be deployed on some 50 different devices in the country, between Huawei and Honor models. In Europe, there is currently no information on the beta availability.
