Huawei’s Mate RS Porsche Design just received an update, with May’s security patch from Google.

2 days after the P20 Pro update, it’s the turn of the Mate RS to get its monthly security update. May’s security patch from Google is thus installed. Another change is the position of HiCare, Huawei’s application dedicated to customer service and reparations. For some reason, HiCare was relocated from the tools folder to the home screen, for no apparent reason (maybe not enough people are aware of this application?). Once the update is installed, it turns out HiCare remained in the tools folder. This may only concern new buyers who’ve turned on their device for the first time.
This patch for the Mate RS changes the version from NEO-L29 8.1.0.120(C721) to NEO-L29 8.1.0.128(C721) and is about 500 MB in size.
Contrary to the P20 Pro’s update, it doesn’t add Google Smart Lock, but for a good reason: it was already present in the last update the Mate RS had, about a month ago. This was mentioned in our article last month.
The patch notes read as following:
- [Security] Integrates Google security patches released in May 2018 for improved system security.
- [HiCare] Relocates HiCare from the Tools folder to home screen.
