This project, involving more than 300 international scientists and engineers, is estimated to cost around 300 million euros, with 85% of it funded by the EU.

The research centre will have two lasers, one of 1 petawatt and one of 10 petawatts, making them the most powerful lasers ever build.

Scientists and private companies will be eventually allowed to use the facilities in the future, to develop new techniques or new medical applications to treat tumours, aeronautics or even the car industry.
