Around mid-April 2020, Huawei launched their annual photography contest, the Huawei NEXT-IMAGE awards, with the only participation condition being submitting a photo taken with a Huawei or Honor smartphone. Users can also submit various entries spread in six different categories, with one of them being short videos. This contest is open to all countries, with the 2019 edition having had participants from over 150 different countries and over 500K submissions overall. However, this year, there are only 73 prizes, meaning chances to win are rather slim. This is where the Belgian branch of Huawei Mobile intervenes, having organized an exclusive version of the contest, NEXT-IMAGE Belgium, with five different categories and the opportunity of winning a P40 Pro.

This “exclusive” version of the contest, reserved to Belgians, also slightly differs from the global contest, as the pictures for the five different themes have to submitted between specific dates and through Instagram, instead of being able to submit them all at once through Huawei’s website. For instance, the first theme is “Hello, Life!”, with users having to submit their photos between the 22nd of May 2020 and the 2nd of June 2020. The second theme, “Story-teller”, which has to tell a story with between 3 to 9 pictures, will run from the 5th to the 15th of June 2020, the third theme, “Faces”, will run from the 19th to the 30th of June, the fourth theme, “Good night” will run from the 3rd to the 14th of July and the last theme, “Near far”, will run from the 17th until the 28th of July. For more details and information on each of these themes, we invite readers to either check Huawei’s website or our previous article on the subject.

As mentioned earlier, users have to submit their entries through Instagram, by adding the hashtags “#HuaweiNextImage” and “#CapturedOnHuawei”, and by tagging “@HuaweiMobileBE”. The brand also specifies that users will also be automatically entered to the global NEXT-IMAGE contest, increasing the chances of winning one of the prizes.

The website does not provide much information on the event, although participants likely have to live in Belgium to be able to receive their prize. Furthermore, while the brand only mentions one P40 Pro, they likely mean one P40 Pro per category winner. Overall, this strategy of making the contest more regional is quite interesting, although it’s a bit surprising only Belgium (as far as we are aware) received this opportunity, with larger markets such as Italy or Spain not having this special event.
